Description

Dioralyte sachets contain rehydration salts consisting of sugars and salts (glucose, sodium chloride, potassium chloride and disodium hydrogen citrate). They are used to replace body fluids lost as a result of acute diarrhoea.

Diarrhoea makes you lose more fluids and electrolytes (salts such as sodium and potassium) than you usually would and can make you dehydrated. Sachets of rehydration salts are used to replace body fluids lost as a result of diarrhoea. This is particularly important in frail and elderly people and children with diarrhoea.

The contents of the sachets are dissolved in water to provide the fluid. The sugar (glucose) that is in the sachets helps the water and electrolytes to be absorbed from the intestines.

Directions

Dissolve a sachet into 200ml of water. Use fresh water for adults and children. For infants, water should be freshly boiled and then cooled. The solution should be made up immediately before use. If refrigerated, should be used within 24 hours.

  • Adults including elderly – one or two sachets after every loose motion.
  • Children – One sachet after every loose motion.
  • Infants up to the age of two years – one to one and a half times the normal 24 hour feed volume using dioralyte solution prepared as directed above.

If illness is not improving within 24-48 hours consult your doctor.
When vomiting is present, it is recommended small amounts taken frequently.

PLEASE READ ALL PRODUCT PACKAGING AND LABELS PRIOR TO USE.

KEEP ALL MEDICINES OUT OF THE REACH AND SIGHT OF CHILDREN.

Warnings

The contents of the sachets should only be mixed with water, as directed above. Make sure the correct amount of water is used.

Don’t exceed the dose recommended in the leaflet provided with the medicine. Make sure you give the correct dose for children and babies.

Infants with severe diarrhoea and/or vomiting should be seen by a doctor as soon as possible.

If symptoms persist for more than 36 hours, seek medical advice from a doctor.
